Manufacturing is the process of producing goods out of raw materials. In Idaho, the raw material could be sand that becomes a microchip or a potato that becomes a french fry.   Manufacturing accounts for more than 106,000 jobs in Idaho and 9.97 percent of Idaho’s workforce with an output valued at $10.4 billion, according to the Idaho Department of Commerce.

Nationwide, manufacturing accounted for 15.7 percent of our country’s gross domestic product (GDP) in 2019 and 14.6 percent of Idaho’s GDP. Idaho’s semiconductor industry supports more than 8,200 high-paying jobs, with an output valued at $2.3 billion and 2.84 percent of Idaho’s GDP. The U.S. Census Bureau reports semiconductor devices are Idaho’s leading export, valued at $265 million in 2020.
